Conference Venue

Teaching and Learning Centre

ISSID 2027 will take place from Monday 19 to Friday 23 July 2027 at the Teaching and Learning Centre, Durham University. The ISSID Summer School will be held immediately before the main conference, on 17 and 18 July 2027.

Durham University Teaching and Learning Centre

Located on South Road within Durham University's Lower Mountjoy site, the Teaching and Learning Centre — known locally as the TLC — is a modern, purpose-built venue designed to support teaching, collaboration and large academic events. It is approximately a 10–15-minute walk from Durham city centre, allowing delegates to move easily between the conference, accommodation, restaurants and Durham's historic centre.

The centre provides an excellent setting for the ISSID scientific programme. Its facilities include two tiered lecture theatres seating approximately 496 and 246 delegates, alongside 13 flexible rooms suitable for symposia, workshops and parallel sessions. A large open event space can accommodate catering, exhibitions and poster presentations, while the teaching rooms are equipped with modern presentation and hybrid-event technology.

The building's bright, contemporary interior provides a range of informal spaces in which delegates can meet, work and continue conversations between sessions. The Teaching and Learning Centre is also close to the Bill Bryson Library and other University facilities, while Durham Cathedral, Durham Castle and the wooded banks of the River Wear are within walking distance.

Durham University

Founded in 1832, Durham University is one of England's oldest universities. Rather than occupying a single enclosed campus, many of its colleges, departments and facilities are integrated throughout the city, bringing together Durham's academic community and its distinctive historic surroundings.

The University sits within one of England's most memorable small cities. Durham Cathedral and Durham Castle form a UNESCO World Heritage Site overlooking the River Wear, providing an exceptional backdrop for ISSID 2027 and many opportunities for delegates to explore the city outside the conference programme.

Conference organisation

ISSID 2027 is organised by the ISSID 2027 Local Organising Committee at Durham University, in partnership with Event Durham, Durham University's dedicated conference and event management team. Event Durham supports academic conferences across the University through its venue, accommodation and event-delivery services.
